The common statistic is 400,000 people a year prepare for the PMP exam. Yet only half this number take this exam, and fewer than half of those pass it.
So, just from the get go, 75% of Project Managers are not achieving what they originally intended to do. Now granted, studying for something is still of value – but the project was not complete and the Project Manager did not cross the finish line and become PMP certified.
In a recent survey by Trend Candy, the majority of project managers spend over 6 months studying for the PMP exam. Even if they did not spend much for their PMP Exam Prep course, they are spending considerably more in the time it is taking them to pass the PMP exam and in the money they are losing by not being PMP certified.
