In Project Management there is significant data showing projects that take too long risk never being completed. The same is true when Project Managers undertake the project of preparing for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam.
The number one way Project Managers waste time is in preparing for the PMP exam. Let’s unpack this……
The common statistic is 400,000 people a year prepare for the PMP exam. Yet only half this number take this exam, and fewer than half of those pass it.
So, just from the get go, 75% of Project Managers are not achieving what they originally intended to do. Now granted, studying for something is still of value – but the project was not complete and the Project Manager did not cross the finish line and become PMP certified.
In a recent survey by Trend Candy, the majority of project managers spend over 6 months studying for the PMP exam. But it’s been proven over the past 24 years by Cheetah Learning, that passing the PMP exam can be done after four days of mastering accelerated learning. The numbers are not trivial either – just under 5% of project managers have become PMPs with Cheetah’s approach where the proof of mastering accelerated learning is to take and pass the PMP exam after their four day program.
